सनातन धर्म
Explore the ancient wisdom and living traditions of the world's oldest religion
Hinduism — known as Sanatan Dharma (सनातन धर्म), the "Eternal Way" — is the world's oldest living religion, with roots stretching back over 5,000 years. It is not merely a religion but a comprehensive way of life, a philosophy, and a path to spiritual liberation.
Hinduism has no single founder, no single sacred text, and no uniform creed. Instead it is a vast, diverse family of philosophies and traditions unified by core themes: Dharma (righteousness), Karma (action and consequence), Moksha (liberation), and Ahimsa (non-violence).
Om is the most sacred symbol in Hinduism, representing the primordial sound of the universe — the vibration from which all creation emerged. It is chanted at the beginning and end of prayers and rituals.
Righteousness and cosmic order
Law of action and consequence
Liberation from the cycle of rebirth
Non-violence toward all beings
Hinduism recognises one Supreme Consciousness (Brahman) that manifests in many divine forms. The deities are different facets of this single Reality.
Non-dualism: the individual soul (Atman) and the universal consciousness (Brahman) are ultimately one and the same. Championed by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.
"अहं ब्रह्मास्मि" — I am Brahman
The path of devotion and love. Through total surrender and loving devotion to a personal deity, one attains spiritual liberation.
"हरे कृष्ण, हरे राम"
The path of selfless action. Perform your duty without attachment to results and dedicate every action to the Divine.
"कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते"
The path of knowledge. Through study, reflection and discernment between the real and unreal, the seeker attains self-realisation.
"सत्यं ज्ञानं अनन्तं ब्रह्म"
The oldest Hindu scriptures (~1500–1200 BCE): Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda and Atharvaveda. They contain hymns, philosophy and ritual instructions.
The philosophical appendices to the Vedas exploring the nature of Brahman, Atman and reality. They form the basis of Vedanta philosophy.
700 verses of dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna on duty, devotion, knowledge and liberation — the spiritual heart of Hinduism.
The epic narrative of Lord Rama — teaching ideals of dharma, devotion and righteousness through story.
The longest epic ever written, exploring justice, duty and devotion through the story of the Kurukshetra War. Contains the Bhagavad Gita.
18 major texts containing creation stories, genealogies of gods and kings, cosmology and spiritual teachings through narrative.
Daily worship at home shrine or temple with flowers, incense, lamps and offerings to deities.
Physical and spiritual discipline uniting body, mind and spirit in pursuit of self-realisation.
Selfless service — serving others is serving the Divine, one of the highest spiritual practices.
Devotional singing and chanting of God's names — a joyful form of collective worship.
Voluntary fasting on auspicious days purifies body and mind and deepens devotion.
